Lazyweb request: help a brotha with podcast viewing

27 February, 2008 (13:50) | bitching, lifehacking, movies, music | By: bpm140

I’ll leave for another post my fervent belief that Apple is now first and foremost “The iTunes Company”. I’ll settle for figuring out how to suck the pod- and videocast teat from several sources in my life.

I have an iPod that I sync to my Macbook. The Macbook is only on when I’m using it. I also have a Mac Mini in the loving room and AppleTVs in the bedroom and home theater. I want to download a podcast once and play it on any of the five devices. This doesn’t seem even remotely possible. What am I missing?

“Now I get it” — A followup on Groundhog Day

What happens if the end wasn't the end?Groundhog Day writer Danny Rubin responded to my earlier story, pointing me to a wonderful post from last year in which he discusses the cycle of enlightenment and our perception based upon where a story (artificially?) ends. A must read for anyone who saw the movie.

Additionally, I take this as some validation for what I’m attempting to do with my blog. One hundred words often isn’t enough to do more than formulate an argument and take a basic position. I am dependent upon others to carry on the conversation (or bring me into the loop, as in this case).

A random post about the movie Groundhog Day

5 February, 2008 (21:13) | movies | By: bpm140

The guy who wrote Groundhog Day has a blog about the movie. Seriously. He recently wrote a post about how long Bill Murray was stuck in that day.

I love Groundhog Day, but its ending has always bugged me. I sincerely don’t believe Murray would have experienced a spiritual rebirth. He would have sunk into a level of depravity fit to make Caligula blush and Ghengis Khan faint. Then he would have gone batshit insane.

There were no repercussions for Phil’s actions and no way for him to make a lasting impact on anyone. Mad as a hatter, I say.

U23D. Wow. Just… Wow!

22 January, 2008 (13:27) | movies, music | By: bpm140

I was privileged to attend a press screening of U23D at the Metreon today. It’s been getting killer buzz for a reason. My thoughts:

  • 3D movies are ready for primetime.
  • 3D + Imax = Hugely impressive.
  • Give Bono the Nobel Peace Prize already!
  • The Edge is one hell of a guitarist. His Bullet the Blue Sky solo was awesome.
  • Learning the bass means staring at Adam Clayton whenever he’s onscreen.
  • Poor Larry Mullen Jr. isn’t aging so well.
  • Makes me believe again that music can change the world.
